The "Picquets Way Schools" opened in the 1930s and consisted of 2 teaching blocks, a hall, library, kitchen, canteen, gymnasium, sports hall and an administration area. All the original buildings are still standing and are used today much as they were intended for when built some 70 years ago, although the school is now co-educational and not segregated as it was originally. Since inception the school population has expanded from 500 students to the 1350 that The Beacon has today.
