Vantek Communications was founded in 1993 as a full-service telecommunications consulting firm, based in Eureka, California. Its original founder William Van Hefner continues to serve as the company's acting President and CEO. The company is now known as Vantek Communications, Inc., having incorporated in the State of California in 2002.
Initially, the company offered sales of telecommunications products and services through a traditional bricks-and-mortar distribution channel. This was long before the Internet was available to the general public, and companies were actively marketing their services electronically.
Vantek Communications was not only one of the first companies to market telecommunications services on the Internet, but it developed the very first online newsletter devoted solely to the long distance industry. At first, the newsletter was available only via e-mail. Once the World Wide Web became available to the public though, Discount Long Distance Digest was merged into its current format as a regularly updated website. Later on, the company added a number of other websites, including Telcompare.Com and BulletinBoard.Net.
