Description
In 1999, the students and faculty in the towns of Meriden, Wolcott, and Rocky Hill came together, and although two of Meriden's high schools were bitter rivals, Gus Robotics was formed. Since then, Gus has continued to grow and promote FIRST, creating a sister team, Team 1071 Max (Wolcott, CT), and helping get Team 905 Platt Tech (Milford, CT) started.
Each year, Gus Robotics Team 228 is comprised of roughly 15 students. However, even though Gus is a robotics team, not every student out there wants to work on robots. That is why we have sub-teams work on what interests them. For example, during the build season, we will have some students working on machining robot parts while others are working away on the Macs, designing our computer 3D animation. Depending on the time of the year, students may also be working on our website - designing and uploading content (which this website is full of!), making pep club goodies (signs, banners, hand outs, Gus buttons, anything else related to team spirit), working on miniature VEX robots, and always having a good time.
Gus is about more than just robots! Students need not know anything about robots to be part of Gus. Nor do they have to build or work on the robot if they join. FIRST is about
