TeachInFlorida.com - Florida's Official Administrative and Teacher Recruiting Website
Description
Florida is in the midst of a teacher shortage. Nearly 150,000 instructional staff members provide educational services for Florida’s students. The state is home to the nation’s fourth largest school system, serving nearly 2.3 million students enrolled in grades pre-K through 12 throughout 67 public school districts. The student population increases each year as approximately 42,000 new students enter Florida’s schools. This growth, coupled with an anticipated increase in the number of teachers who are expected to retire, creates an unprecedented need for classroom teachers in all subject areas. Florida is also recruiting minority teachers in order to accommodate the state’s diverse racial and ethnic populations.
In November of 2000, in an effort to meet the need for more teachers, the Department of Education released TeachInFlorida.com. TeachInFlorida.com provides a convenient forum whereby teachers seeking employment opportunities in Florida may post their resumes online and review job announcements submitted by school district personnel and principals. District representatives responsible for hiring teachers may view resumes and contact prospective teachers. The website offers the capability to design searches according to the user’s specific needs (i.e. teachers may limit job searches by geographic area, subject matter, etc.). Teachers may also select an automatic notification option that alerts them to job listings that meet their preferences.
Similarly, district personnel may utilize the automatic notification system to review resumes that match their hiring needs. These services are free to teachers and school districts.
