About the Texas Civil Justice League
Established in 1986, the Texas Civil Justice League (TCJL) is the state’s oldest and most effective lawsuit reform coalition. Business leaders and former legislators founded TCJL to enact recommendations issued by the 1987 House/Senate Joint Committee on Liability Insurance and Tort Law Procedure.
TCJL coordinated the Texas Asbestos Consumers Coalition (TACC) and efforts to pass asbestos litigation reform in 2005. A similar coalition led by TCJL defeated efforts to weaken statute of limitations and venue.
TCJL is a national leader in the lawsuit reform movement and has assisted in the organization of similar state groups in Georgia, Illinois, New York, and Pennsylvania. TCJL was a charter member of the American Tort Reform Association (ATRA). Ralph Wayne, TCJL president, was chairman of ATRA from 1999–2001 and continues to serve on the national organization’s board of directors.
