Tarsian & Blinkley is a privately held Delaware corporation that has received first round funding from angel investors. The company also recently obtained additional development finance from the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, OPIC, to expand its facilities in Kabul.
The mission of the company is to create beautiful, novel, highly fashionable products that celebrate feminine beauty and Afghan artisanship while developing the Afghan economy and improving the lives of Afghan people. The company aims to establish a profitable fashion, accessories, and soft furnishings wholesale and retail business with distribution in Europe, North America, and the Pacific Rim, responding the market's rapidly growing appetite for "ethno-chic" east-meets-west style.
The company was created by Sarah Takesh in 2002 while still attending the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business. In 2002, she successfully sold her first collection produced in Kabul, and in 2003, won the Grand Prize at the National Social Venture Competition, www.socialvc.net, sponsored by the Goldman Sachs Foundation and the Haas and Columbia business schools.
