Description
Tara is a Waldorf high school offering a rigorous academic education with an emphasis on the performing arts. Tara's goal is to use the performing arts to engage and excite adolescents in life itself. Students who choose to enroll in Tara do not wish to remain anonymous: They actively seek out an educational path that asks them to step into the light as individuals.
Effort, enthusiasm, and attitude are key criteria for acceptance into Tara. We know our students well — each grade is 12-15 students — and expect them to strive for excellence within their potential. The result is a level of learning, as well as achievement in theatrical and music performance, that many did not imagine possible. Tara's audiences continue to express amazement that a competitive audition is not part of the admission process.
While about 30 percent of our graduates pursue college-level training and professional careers in theatre, music or dance, the majority of students continue their studies in other fields. Tara alumni include students majoring in such diverse subjects as astrophysics, journalism, pre-medicine, English, and environmental science.
