Tangalle city is a one major town in the Hambantota District. It is 220 Km far from Colombo city. Tangalle is 5 to 6 hour journey from Colombo.Tangalle city has a mild climate, in comparison to the rest of the district, and beautiful sandy beaches. Beautiful and natural palm fringed sea bay and a Fishing Harbor offering great sea food in Tangalle. Along pretty and beautiful beach there are over 100 guest houses and restaurants which have been prepared for the foreign guests disembarking daily to the Tangelle city. The oldest functioning, the prison, the Rest House, and some other ancient buildings constructed by the Dutch and British intruders who invaded the Island are still functioning. Especially the natural swimming pool in the sea closed to the ancient Rest house and the Navy camp is offering the better chance to enjoy the guests who interest to have a sea bath in an quiet and calm beach. For a weekend trip it is often avoided, which is a shame. As well as housing budget travellers, Tangalle has its fair share of mid-range and exclusive accommodation.
