Mature Services Senior Employment Akron Ohio
Description
Incorporated in 1975, Senior Workers’ Action Program was originally created as a resource for older adults who were seeking employment. The agency has expanded into a number of critical areas, providing service to more than 5,000 individuals annually. The agency’s primary mission is to promote successful aging by providing the highest quality programs and services to support, strengthen and empower adults as they age. Mature Services (the new name was implemented in May 2001) provides a broad range of social work, health, employment, volunteer, nutrition and chemical dependency services to older adults. The agency serves older adults in good health, as well as health-impaired, economically disadvantaged, socially isolated, and multi-disadvantaged older adults. The agency was incorporated as a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt, not-for-profit agency, and, in 1981, became a partner agency of the United Way of Summit County.
211 individuals were able to remain in their homes with the help of homecare services that provided cleaning, meal preparation, laundry, bathing, grooming, etc.
188 older adults received treatment for problems with alcohol and other drugs. In addition, nearly 3,000 attended informational talks about Safe Use of Medications and Alcohol Use and Abuse.
