Started as a chessclub for elementary school "De Schakel"in 1981 it became an official chessclub in 2000.
In Apeldoorn nearly every elementary school has its own chessclub. But only two: De Schakel and De Touwladder have an official club with membership of the Dutch Chess Association: Koninklijke Nederlandse Schaakbond.
