Sunny Kitchen went online in the Fall of 2000, one of the first websites to sell kitchen furniture -- kitchen islands, kitchen carts, cupboards, tables and chairs.
Owned and operated by Kip and Robin Shaw of Cherry Valley, NY, Sunny Kitchen first offered a local product line of furniture made by Catskill Craftsmen of Stamford, NY.
As Sunny Kitchen entered its fourth year of business, the Shaws added another line of kitchen furniture, produced by Home Styles. And then in 2004, they included the Michael Scott product line.
Increased Competition
In recent years, there have been some large companies that have entered the Internet marketplace, aggressively trying to squeeze out the little Mom-and-Pop websites like Sunny Kitchen. But many of the Mom-and-Pop's have survived, like Sunny Kitchen, because of the word-of-mouth advertising they have gained over the years and the emphasis they place on customer service.
Customer Service
Regarding customer service, Kip said, "Because we are a small company, we value our personal relationship with our customers. We try to put ourselves "in their shoes" when we make changes to our website. That's the main reason we opened our 'Ideas' section -- hoping it can give our visitors valuable insight before they make a purchase."
