Reflecting back on my life, I have come to realise that I have always had a strong affinity with the energy and power created by harmony, order and self-awareness. As a child, I had an insatiable desire to create balance in my own world by rearranging my surroundings until they felt “just right”. In my teens, that desire to create order from chaos extended out to my family and close friends by suggesting ways that they could change their homes and their lives by simply rearranging their environment and removing clutter, often with remarkable results.
In the more recent past, I began to recognise that my lifelong ability to see and feel energies in people and places has been strengthened as I learned more about myself, the world in which we live and the knowledge that we have at our disposal. Knowing oneself is key to understanding. To develop a deeper understanding of self-knowledge and perception I have, over the years, honed my skills by engaging with a variety of disciplines. My inner strength, self-awareness and perceptive skills have been immeasurably improved by the practice of martial arts (in the form of Tai Kwon Do) and gentler but no less robust forms of self-discipline including Tai Chi, Yoga and Personal Meditation. These skills have been further enhanced by a passionate and continued thirst for learning and understanding of Spiritual knowledge.
I began my study of Feng Shui in 1990, rapidly recognising my natural abilities and strengths in this ancient practice. I began to understand that the instinctive feelings I had as a child about harmony and order were an early manifestation of working constructively with natural earth energies (also called chi or prana). This, together with an understanding of where the chi is too free-flowing or blocked, is of course the basis of Feng Shui as we know it today.
