Heavenly food is on offer every week at 8am and 10am (8am and 9:30am during the summer). In the bread and wine of communion, in the prayers, in the music, in the words of scripture, in the sermon (we hope) – in each of these, Jesus makes good on his promise, “Those who come to me shall not hunger, those who believe in me shall not thirst.”
A smorgasbord of food follows the 10am time of worship, where a not-to-be-missed coffee hour allows time to feed body and spirit. The word “Companion” comes from two words “bread” and “with” – a companion is someone we break bread with. In Coffee Hour, as well as in many other events – Foyer groups, work parties (a donut in one hand and a paintbrush in the other), chicken dinner fundraisers, potlucks, beach campouts – there is time to feed body and spirit, as we talk with one another. We are companions in our Christian journey – and we eat more than bread!
Food of righteousness may not be anything you have consciously thought of before. “Righteousness” is one of those ten-dollar words that means being in right relationship with God, our neighbor, and our self. We believe we have been extraordinarily blessed, and we seek to share the heavenly smorgasbord of food we have received. We participate in the Heifer Project, Ecclesia Ministries, Christmas gifts for needy local kids, the Bishop’s Fund for Children, to name a few. We host dances for Middle School students. We also have an active group of women – called Ladies Aid – who provide casseroles to those who are recovering from surgery, maintain a food pantry, knit sweaters for needy children, and provide many helping hands. And we have an active prayer ministry through the Intercessory Prayer Group. Jesus said “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” We know that we taste a bit of the kingdom of heaven as we give what we have received.
