Stratford Primary School

Description

The special character of Stratford Primary School determines to a great extent the programmes in operation and the outcomes of the school's endeavours for individual children and for special groups of children.

Our "Special Character" is also influenced by our geographical position. Stratford is nestled in the shadow of Mount Taranaki/Egmont and thus is subjected to weather conditions which at times test the resolve of our entire school community.

In 2002 18% of the school’s population was Maori. A Whanau Class has been established to support the work of the Kaiarahi Reo who operates a Te Reo unit on a part-time basis to develop Te Reo and Tikanga Maori amongst those children who avail themselves of the opportunity. Maori perspective's feature in normal classroom programmes. A Maori Kaupapa Honoa for our school provides guidance for our decision making.
