Description
Steve decided to follow his enthusiasm for education and in 1977 qualified as a teacher and taught at schools in the northern suburbs. Steve’s interest in politics, both Australian and international, enticed him to become a member of the ALP, in 1983. Later he embarked on a career in the political field, with work in senior advisory roles with both state and federal governments, beginning in 1990. He also worked alongside Lynne Kosky, Minister for Education, providing him with a first hand experience on the intricacies of government, bureaucracy and effective service delivery.
Steve is the Chair of the Parliamentary Education and Training Committee, which undertakes substantial investigations into ways of improving education outcomes for young people.
Steve has been the MP for Eltham since December 2002, and in that time has strived to make Eltham a better place for the whole of the community. He is particularly active in helping improve local schools, sports facilities and working to develop greater community involvement amongst residents.
