Title
National Conference of State Societies
Description
With roots that trace back to the founding of the Illinois State Society in 1854, state societies developed over 150 years as unique civic and social clubs in the National Capital region. They serve as nonpartisan booster clubs that celebrate the history, culture, colleges, traditions, humor, politics, and commerce of America's 50 states plus the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The societies provide expatriates of states who live in Washington, DC and Virginia and Maryland suburbs with a special nonpartisan venue that enables them to share in a wide variety of receptions, dinners, picnics, and sporting events.
What makes state-society programs unique is that they bring together Members of Congress, Capitol Hill staff, journalists, students, military staff, diplomats, trade-association staff, and business leaders who share their home-state heritage in a relaxed and nonpartisan atmosphere of goodwill and good fun.
