Description

We are located at 305 E. Capitol Street in downtown Jackson directly across from the Governor's Mansion. As you approach Jackson, follow the signs to "Downtown Jackson." Once on I-55, take the Pearl Street Exit heading west. On West Street, take a right and head north for one block. St. Andrew's is located on the corner of West and Capitol Streets.

Literally, a cathedral is the seat of a bishop deriving from the word "cathedra" which means a seat. At St. Andrew’s Cathedral, the symbolic seat is built into the wall to the left of the high altar. It is marked by a carved canopy above and the back has a needlepoint replica of the Diocesan seal.

Many cathedrals, especially in England, are under direct control of a Bishop, administered by a Dean, Canons, and Chapter. St. Andrew’s does maintain this special relationship with the Bishop through a Chapter. However, as with any Episcopal parish church, operating responsibility rests with the Wardens and Vestry, with the Dean serving as rector and the Canons as clergy staff.
