About John Sim
John Sim was born in London in 1950. His time spent at school was more enjoyable when he reached senior school as this was when his talent for art was recognised. By the age of 12 he was designing and painting for the local school plays and when he was 13 years old he had two drawings hung in the County Hall.
At 16 years of age, John's family moved to Northamptonshire where he became a decorator for a local firm but still continued painting as a hobby. He was offered a place at art college, but chose to work to help his mother who was a widow.
When John was 21 years old, he was finding it hard to work and paint as his paintings were taking over. He had to make a choice either to give up oil painting or turn professional. It was whilst he was visiting his brother in Cornwall that he made up his mind. After seeing the wonderful galleries and beautiful landscape he decided to move to Cornwall. In 1975 that move finally took place.
