SQLSummit: Exploring Databases, SQL/XML, XQuery, Grid Computing, and Information Retrieval
Description
Exploring SQL and Evolving Database Technologies
SQLSummit.com is a knowledge portal for the database and information retrieval community, with SQL-related technology as an area of particular interest. SQL is the most popular language querying databases. It's a de facto standard that has the support of the major providers of database management systems. SQL first became an international standard in 1986 but advancing the SQL standard is an ongoing process. SQL is not a closed domain with a static body of knowledge. The information technology (IT) community will continue to see innovations in SQL, database technologies, and data access techniques.
SQL servers have evolved to support object-relational capabilities, rich types and multidimensional data sets. The choice of data access interfaces has expanded to include embedded SQL, call-level interfaces, object interfaces and APIs for services.
What about SQL/XML and XQuery?
The W3C XML specification generated enthusiasm for integrating SQL databases and document processing, marrying SQL and XML. SQL platforms have evolved to support tight integration with XML, XML Schema and XQuery.
