Jeff Solomon founded SPS in 1986. While practicing law in California, Jeff was hired by a professional hockey player to resolve an international tax issue concerning the U.S./Canadian Tax Treaty. The player was so impressed with Jeff’s legal skills that he asked Jeff to negotiate his hockey contract. Jeff enjoyed the agent work so much that he began to represent players full-time. Within a short time, Jeff developed a reputation as a shrewd and creative negotiator that paid close attention to detail. Today, Jeff is widely regarded as one of the top agents in hockey.
In 1991, Ben Hankinson retained Jeff as his agent. After seven successful years as a player, Ben retired in 1998. But he still had a love for the game and was intrigued by the business of hockey. During his playing career Ben became aware of the large number of players who were dissatisfied with their agents. Ben knew his ability to understand the players' desires and needs would be a valuable addition to the right agency. After considering the excellent contracts SPS negotiated for him and the personal service he received from Jeff, the logical professional move was to join SPS and ensure that its clients receive the best care in the athlete representation industry.
