The foundation of Sport About for Kids actually began more than two decades ago in the form of Sport About, a sports store specializing in sports apparel and shoes for high school age customers and up (sort of a local version of Foot Locker or Athlete's Foot). Back then, our main focus was on high school team shoes, adult apparel and custom screen printing.
Throughout the 80's, Sport About began to receive more and more requests for sports apparel and shoes for younger kids. The frustration of customers who couldn't find specific sports apparel for kids anywhere prompted us to examine the feasibility of a kids' sports specialty store.
In 1992, Sport About for Kids was created as an experiment to test the demand for such items. A small retail space in an upscale mall in Central Iowa, Valley West Mall, was chosen. We continued to run the adult Sport About store as usual during the trial period. Thankfully, customers embraced our kids sports store concept immediately.
