Title

Spielmannszug Minnesota (SZMn) Karneval Klub

Description

We are a club, established in 1993, for the purpose of celebrating the traditions of Karneval, as it is known in the Rhine region of Germany, or Fasching, as it is known in Southern Germany. Click here for history of Fasching. Our purpose is to educate those interested in this area of German culture through fun and friendship.

Our Annual events include the Opening or Prinzenkr ö nung around November 11th; Kappenabend or Crazy Hat Night where all attending are encouraged to make and wear silly homemade hats; Weiberfastnacht, where women rule and men need to dress as women to participate, Maskenball or Kost ü mball just before Lent and Lumpenball or "Hobo Evening," when everyone "appears to be broke."

Meetings are held once per month at 7:30 and are usually at the Klub Haus on Rice Street in St. Paul. We frequently gather at 7:00 to obtain and review the minutes from the last meeting and to visit. The Klub Haus is about 3 blocks south of Maryland and Rice. The meetings start off with a business meeting with the primary focus being the planning of future events. Refreshments are usually also available during and after the meeting during a fellowship hour. The December meeting includes more refreshments and includes somewhat of a Christmas party. Although the preceding indicates what usually happens, meeting locations and formats can vary somewhat from month to month. Click here for details of the next club meeting.
