In general, the Wisconsin River is a wide, lazy, beautiful river. From Sauk City, it flows freely 90 miles southwest, and empties into the Mississippi River at Wyalusing State Park in southwestern Wisconsin. The last dam on the river is located two miles upstream from Sauk Prairie Canoe Rental at Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin. The river is relatively shallow, and the current on average, flows at 2 to 3 miles per hour.
