In September of 1990, a dream came true for Lance and Linda Carter, whose passion for hospitality, good food and wine, opened the doors of the new Southside Café. This was a family affair as they and their three children all worked together, painting, papering and furnishing their new café.

Chef de Cuisine, John Redden returned to Southside Café after attending the California Culinary Academy, learning new American food preparation techniques under the famous Chinese-French Fusion Chef, Walter Laing, who was also John’s mentor.

After working at the famous four-star restaurant, Water Gate Restaurant on Knob Hill, John interned at the five-star restaurant, Danko’s. John Redden, Chef de Cuisine, has implemented his cutting edge techniques of food preparation and has created a new menu, which has been an instant success for Southside Café. The all-new Southside Café proudly introduces New American Cuisine with a Southern flair. John’s philosophy is “It’s not what you cook, but how you prepare the food to perfection.” The new menu has been such a success Southside Café fans are now visiting more often.
