Title

Welcome to South Cicero Baseball

Description

After the most modest start in 1951 using bricks, stones, or anything we could for bases, we progressed to make shift league playing at 35th St. & 54th Ave. We only had 4 teams in 1952. In November of 1952 we were incorporated as an organization and also received a charter from Little League Headquarters at Williamsport Pa. And we elected our first officials. A lot of work went into the preparation of the fields for the 1953 season. The Chicago White Sox were most helpful in keeping our association going. They most generously provided us with baseball equipment. In 1954 we moved to our present location. This area was made available to us through the kind help of the Goss Printing Press Co. Through the years hard work has been fruitful in building three fields, Two little league and one Babe Ruth.

In 1960 we added Babe Ruth to our organization, in 1962 we added Connie Mack Baseball. In 1964 Our traditional league all stars finished Second in the state. In 1966 we changed over to senior Babe Ruth. In 1967 our jr. Babe Ruth team from South Cicero won district, sectional & state championship and moved on to Ohio Valley Regional in Anderson Ind. And finished 4th in this tournament. In 1972 our jr. Babe Ruth won their district, sectional and went on to the state tournament . In the same year we added a lighting system on our Babe Ruth field thereby enabling us to play more games and add more teams. This was done thru the many tag days, carnivals, and other fund raising efforts. But we needed a bond issue to make sure we would have a field. The Hawthorne Park District was most helpful at this time. The fields were purchased by Hawthorne Park District and loaned to us for our use.

This association could not have survived without the unselfish efforts of all past presidents and officials and many unsung individuals that donated their time and talent. Without these people we would not be were We are today, celebrating our 50th year. Lets hope its 50 years of progress and we have many more years of progress. 50 years is a shot time When you compare with 200 years of our nations history, but when you consider that professional baseball is only 100 years old, we've been at it for a half a century.
