Description
Special Operations Response Team, or "SORT" is a non-profit corporation founded in 1978 to provide the highest level of Disaster Medical Support through Education, Research and Response. SORT was founded in 1978 and incorporated in 1988.
SORT is based in Forsyth County, North Carolina. SORT personnel include physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency tactical staff, law enforcement officers, psychologists, chaplains, and support members. SORT stands by or responds to mass crowd gatherings, unusual occurrences such as natural and man made disasters, mass casualty or evacuations situations, hazardous materials spills or emergency rescue operations.
In 1990, SORT's members were selected as a Disaster Medical Assistance TEAM (DMAT) of the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS), a nationwide system of Medical teams and healthcare facilities originally organized by the U.S. Public Health Service and presently under Federal Emergency Management Agency / U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
