Biographical Information
In 1970 Miles received a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology/Earth Science and in 1972 he completed a Masters Thesis Proposal in Marine Geology and Oceanography. His career in vascular technology began in 1980 when he joined the research team of Dr. Eugene Strandness at the University of Washington Medical Center Department of Surgery in Seattle where he performed venous research studying the sequellae of deep vein thrombosis.
In 1984 Miles became manager of the University of Washington School of Medicine Vascular Laboratory where he designed and implemented the Vascular Diagnostic Service for the University of Washington Medical Center. While at the University he began providing vascular training with ultrasound equipment manufacturers such as ATL (Philips) and ACUSON (Siemens).
During his career Miles published several scientific papers on vascular technology and has lectured extensively on this subject. He is a member of the Editorial Review Board of the Journal for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) as well as a member of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (SDMS).
