Description
Ten frisbees and a dream - that's how Bangkok Ultimate began back in January 1998. When dedicated disc player Gary Eisenberg arrived in Thailand and discovered there was no ultimate in Bangkok he quickly got the word out, found a few fellow ulti players and pulled together the first incarnation of The Bangkok Soi Dawgz
Three months later, 'Dawggy Daddy' led the team into their first tournament (Hong Kong, '98) and the Dawgz made themselves known. Although they lost in the semi-finals to eventual tourney winner, Taipei's 'Renegade Province Ultimate', the Dawgz came away with the Spirit Award and the desire to compete again. Players came and went, including Eisenberg but Bangkok Ultimate has survived. InSeptember of 1999, the Dawgz fielded a full team for the Singapore tourney and took third place out of ten.
As Ultimate expanded its reach throughout Asia in 2000, so did the Dawgz. Stray Dawgz made it to Bali and Shanghai while full teams stormed into S'pore (3rd, again, plus the coveted party award!) and HK (a strong first day, a seriously hung over second, but did win the spirit award!).
