SOCCER WORLD SYSTEMS
Description
SOCCERWORLD was established in July 1985. This was a concept created by John McGrane who had just recently retired as a professional soccer player. Mr. McGrane's playing career spanned 10 years in the North American Soccer League, playing with the likes of Pele, George Best, Franz Beckenbauer, Johan Cruyff and Carlos Alberto, who were all captains of their World Cup teams. As well as playing in the North American Soccer League, Mr. McGrane represented Canada over 20 times in World Cup qualification matches with his most memorable experience of playing for Canada in the 1976 Olympic games. Mr. McGrane is a graduate of Simon Fraser University, earning a BSC in Kinesioligy. While at Simon Fraser, Mr. McGrane played for the men's varsity soccer team and achieved All American status. His professional coaching debut was in 1988 with the Hamilton Steelers of the Canadian Soccer League. As well as coach he was the General Manager of the club and was awarded for his efforts as being selected the General Manager of the year. Mr.McGrane complete his professional coaching tenure in 1990 with the Hamilton Steelers with an impressive record as the 2nd Highest winning record in the Canadian Soccer League history.
Upon his retirement as a professional soccer player, Mr. McGrane decided to come back to Canada and open an indoor soccer facility, the first of its kind in Canada. After establishing the first location of SOCCERWORLD in Ancaster, Ontario, a second location was established in Toronto, Ontario in 1987 and then a third in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in 1989. From this experience of owning, building and managing indoor soccer facilities, it was time to progress to offering these services to parties interested in constructing their own facilities.
Mr. John Gibson joined the SOCCERWORLD team in 1987 as manager and later in 1990 Mr. McGrane and Mr. Gibson formed their current partnership to operate the SOCCERWORLD operations. Mr. Gibson's background in the local soccer community is vast, spending several years coaching youth competitive teams, senior amateur, professionally in the Canadian Soccer League and then at the collegiate level with Mohawk College. Combined with Mr. Gibson's roots in the soccer community, he has over 20 years experience working as a manager in the steel industry, and now is fully dedicated to SOCCERWORLD's ventures.
