History
The Southern Orthopaedic was founded by a small group of dedicated orthopaedists with a desire to establish a regional orthopaedic association for physicians living in the southern states of the United States. The Southern Orthopaedic Association was founded in 1983 to serve its members and fulfill its mission of developing and fostering the art and science of medicine in the specialty of orthopaedic surgery. Foremost in this effort is the flagship Annual Meeting and the Journal of Surgical Orthopaedic Advances.
Purpose
The purpose of SOA is solely to develop and foster scientific medicine in the specialty of orthopaedic surgery. The association operates exclusively for charitable, scientific and educational purposes.
Membership
Over 1,400 orthopaedic physicians are members of the Southern Orthopaedic Association. Active members reside in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
