What does "Smeap" mean?
Like most people my age, I was introduced to the English onomatopoeia words used to describe the noises farm animals make by the Spin 'n' Say. Honestly, I don't really understand the point of this toy. It appears "educational", but isn't, and it appears "entertaining" (or so grownups might think it to be for a toddler), but is only thus for maybe a few minutes. How important is it, in the grand scheme of things, to know that "The cow says... Moo!". The only thing kids really get from the toy is a life-long amusement at the endless variations of "The {noun} says {random word}!". Of course, in my case it always made me curious as to what all the other animals say, and why they weren't important enough to have a spot on the wheel. Thus, somewhere in that head of mine, was born: "The flamingo says... Smeap™!". That is the origin of the correct, trademarked, spelling of the sound word made by a flamingo, according to me.
