Description
How to Use This Book Effectively
ALPHABETIZATION: All entries are alphabetized by letter rather than by word so multiple-word terms are treated as single words. For example, ANNUAL MEETING follows ANNUALIZE as though it were spelled ANNUALMEETING, without spacing. Similarly, OFFICE SUPPLY STORE follows OFFICER. Abbreviations and acronyms appear as if they were text words, for ease of reference. No separate listing of abbreviations and acronyms is used. Numbers in entry titles are listed as if the numbers were spelled out.
When a term has several meanings, most common usage for the small business person usually determines the first subhead listing. Others follow in priority order unless clarity dictates a different order. In some entries, the various meanings of the term may be preceded by simple numerical headings.
CROSS REFERENCES: In order to gain fuller understanding of a term, sometimes it helps to refer to the definition of another term. In these cases, the additional term is capitalized. Such cross-references appear in the body of the definition or at the end of the entry. Cross-references may also refer to related or contrasting concepts to give more information and a fuller understanding of the term of interest. As a rule, a term is printed in capitals, only on its first appearance in the definition. Where a term is fully defined by another entry, a reference rather than a definition is provided.
