Description
Artist-jeweller, Slim Barrett, came to London from Athenry Co. Galway, Ireland in 1982. He designs from his London based studio, by appointment, one off pieces to commission for private clients and for leading international brands alongside his own collections. Work includes silver and fine jewellery, sculpture and collections of objet such as chandeliers and candelabrums. Chanel, Ungaro, Versace, Montana, Karl Lagerfeld and John Galliano have all commissioned Slim to design jewellery for them. Described by The Times as 'one of the most influential figures in contemporary design' Slim Barrett has a private client list that includes the late Princess of Wales, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Cher, Halle Berry, Belinda Carlisle, Josh Hartnett, Lenny Kravitz, Rachel Weisz, Shakira, Christina Ricci, Colin Farrell and he created the diamond wedding crown for Victoria Adams "Posh Spice" for her marriage to David Beckham.
Awards include the Martini Rossi excellence in design award, 1987 and in January 2000, he became the first Irishman to win the De Beers Diamonds International Award. Entered in the Guinness Book of Records as the designer who has created the most valuable contemporary tiara in the world, Slim Barrett has been credited with starting the tiara craze. Numerous world-wide exhibitions have focused on Slim Barrett sculpture, such as the Museum of Modern Art in Japan, Le Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Royal Festival Hall in London. Collected and prized his work has been collected by the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Ulster museum in Belfast. "I felt he was someone very influential.
