SkillsNET®
Description
SkillsNET's mission is to enable companies and organizations to optimize their workforce to meet the changing market forces by providing the next generation of foundational human capital enterprise technology and solutions, regardless of size of industry. Through advancing the science of skills content management, we architect best practices and service solutions for clients.
SkillsNET was founded in 1996 by its founder and CEO, Michael Brown. Cognitive Training Associates (CTA), the predecessor of SkillsNET, was founded in 1982 by Mr. Brown. The organizational histories of these companies speak to the pivotal roles that the SkillsNET, CTA, and Michael Brown have played in the advancement of voluntary industry skill standards, human capital contents standards, and workforce development.
The goal in forming SkillsNET was to bring cutting-edge research for skills identification and workforce skills development to the workplace utilizing a new structure - one that would allow for the rapid design and delivery of products consistent with the needs of the industry. Motivation to form SkillsNET stemmed from the belief that a dual approach to address workforce initiatives would be superior to most traditional approaches: we believe that a focus on initial research and development should be followed by an equally strong focus on application. In the Human Capital and Skill Standards arena, the needs of the customer base have not been met, resulting in a proliferation of practical problems that must be overcome in order to effectively apply skills content. The SkillsNET vision is to leverage the support from various constituencies, including industry labor, skill standard boards, federal, state, and local governments.
