Description
Fire and Rescue
Operating as a Volunteer department, we provide over 500 square miles of coverage including the towns of Matheson and Ramah. Our entire protection area is defined by the Big Sandy School District of Eastern Elbert County and includes parts of Northeastern El Paso County.
The single 5-Bay Fire Station we operate from is located in the town of Simla, Colorado. For map and driving directions follow this link: To the Station.
Wind-blown and dry grass-covered plains comprise a great deal of our geographic area so Wildland/Grass fires with limited water access tend to be one of our most challenging calls. The department also stands ready to respond to traffic and other accidents with rescue apparatus and tools designed for extraction/rescue.
