Description

Excerpted from the website:

Background
SI was founded in 1855 by Fr. Anthony Maraschi of the Society of Jesus. The Society of Jesus, also known as the Jesuits, is an order of Catholic priests founded in 1534 by St. Ignatius Loyola (1491-1556). The original school served students ranging in age from 8 to 20 and later split into the University of San Francisco and St. Ignatius High School in the 1900s. When SI moved to its sixth site in the Sunset District in 1969, it changed its name to St. Ignatius College Preparatory. More than 30,000 students have graduated from the school, over 70 percent of whom have remained in the San Francisco Bay Area. You can read more about our history here.
