Signiant was spun out of Nortel Networks in August 2000. Signiant’s core technology was developed within Nortel to carrier-grade specifications and implemented by multiple groups within Nortel for several years prior to the spin out. Nortel Network's enterprise-wide data transfer challenges required an advanced solution capable of managing the entire transfer process (set-up, content extraction, multiple distribution schemes, post-processing, end-to-end exception handling, reporting, security, etc.). Since there was no such product on the market, Nortel Networks began a development effort resulting in the robust, agent-based, flexible data movement technology that is now the core of Signiant's product portfolio.
Signiant's patent-pending carrier-grade technology is now used for the automated, secure, and reliable transfer of data. Billions of files have been moved without error using Signiant technology.
