The Society of Irish and American Rheumatologists (SIAR) was founded to foster the spirit of friendship and collegiality which has long existed between Irish and American rheumatologists. Many prominent American rheumatologists are either from Ireland or of Irish ancestry. The most important event is the annual meeting, which takes place in Ireland or America on an alternate year basis. The American meetings usually coincide with the ACR meetings and the Irish venues have included Dublin, Cork and Belfast. The society continues to foster a spirit of goodwill and friendship and has facilitated sponsorship of aspiring Irish rheumatologists to attend the ACR meeting, to undertake research projects, and to study in the United States.
