Description
In 1991, he graduated from Brighton Polytechnic (now promoted to the University of Brighton) with a degree in Humanities. However, his timing was less than impeccable, and he ended up landing on the jobs market right in the middle of the last recession (or last but one if you’re not giving Gordon ‘safe hands’ Brown the benefit of the doubt).
Simon Kernick was born way back in 1966 in the less-than-quaint London satellite town of Slough. After leaving school in the mid 1980s with not much to yell about in the way of qualifications, he worked in a variety of jobs including labourer on a road-building gang (until an industrial accident involving his foot and a grit-carrying conveyer belt cut short a promising career); stockroom assistant for a major IT company (this is his cv talking); and fruitpicker (less said about that one the better).
He also spent several years living and travelling in Canada and the USA before returning to England via Australia and the Far East to complete his studies and postpone having to get a proper job.
