Description
The distinctive approach we take to shuttle making is based primarily on methods borrowed from stringed instrument construction. Each shuttle is carefully designed giving special consideration to the wood grain orientation, its stiffness and density to ensure the shuttle functions properly, with the structural ability to stay that way.
Many of you have seen our designs grow and evolve over time as we began to address the delicate and intimate features of the wooden tatting shuttle. Some prefer the warm, light feel of a wooden shuttle, as well as the flexibility it provides when correctly applied. It must be realized however, that the same characteristics responsible for comfort and performance, make wood a relatively unstable choice of materials when compared to other traditional materials such as metal or mother of pearl shell. Therefore, our construction process utilizes wood with a specific grain orientation to provide the most stable piece possible.
More importantly, because our shuttle blades have been "steam-bent" out of solid wood to achieve the desired radius, it is a relatively simple task to "reset" them, and get the shuttle dialed right back in if a time should come that the tips do move. When you consider purchasing one of our shuttles, please be assured that each one is truly designed to last, and perform well along the way.
