Sho Sum Clothing
Description
The Sho Sum concept began during pick-up games on a worn-out asphalt basketball court in New York, complete with rusted chain link nets and no lights, but lots of respect for anyone who wanted to step on the court. Rain, cold, ridiculous humidity or stifling heat. Did not matter. We played in all conditions and took on all comers. And when you drove the lane on three 220-pound guys ready to lay you out on that asphalt, or launched a laser from the top of the faded key with the score tied at 10, it did not matter what logo was on your shirt or what shoes you wore. The only thing that mattered was that you were in the game. All that mattered was that you had the cojones to take your game to that court, had respect for those that did the same and respect for the soul of the game, you had a few moments of peace playing the games we love.
Although the Sho Sum clothing brand was not introduced until 1997, we all lived the Sho Sum philosophies for much longer. When we introduced the Sho Sum line, our goal was simple: encourage others to Sho Sum just like we did on that baking asphalt. Sho Sum is not for those who simply want to join the pack, followers, and the hangers on. Instead, Sho Sum is for those who are not afraid to be themselves while respecting similar choices in others. Whether you are in the game, watching the game, studying the game, or simply respecting the game, Sho Sum encourages you to DO IT YOUR OWN WAY!
The first prototypes rolled off the presses in late 1997. And they really sucked. Fortunately, we re-tooled the logo and added some icons and the message came together. We also found that there were thousands of asphalt courts throughout the country that shared our experience, and the Sho Sum message took off. Since those early days, the Sho Sum message has been featured in several magazine and newspaper editorials, emblazoned on athletes who are not afraid to break away from the pack and do things their way, and in several urban/skate/surf stores throughout the country. In keeping with our philosophy to give back to those who Sho Sum, we have teamed up with several civic and charitable organizations in an effort to spread the Sho Sum philosophies, including the Robert Griffith Foundation, the Harlem Globetrotters, The Tennessee Titans, and several recreational sports leagues throughout the country where guys like us Sho Sum everyday.
