Description
Shoptick was officially formed in 1999 to market and continue development of a rental inventory and production management system orginally created as an in house solution for Vista Productions, a Kansas City based production company. Jeff Payne, then a lighting designer with Vista, developed Shoptick 0.0 using Visual Basic and Microsoft Access. At the suggestion of Graham Kelley, a friend and web developer, the process of rewriting Shoptick as a web application began, this time with Allaire Cold Fusion and SQL Server as the core technologies. This happened at the height of the dot com era and work soon began on raising startup capital and offering Shoptick to the rest of the industry.
Mick Warnock, CEO of Vista Productions and Linda Sherman, an attorney with Crouch, Spangler and Douglas, commissioned a market research study and pulled together a formal business plan. After presenting the plan to a number of prospective Kansas City area angel investors, enough capital was raised to hire a staff, purchase much needed equipment and put a marketing plan in motion that would introduce Shoptick to the world.
Soon after the conclusion of Mick and Linda's successful fundraising efforts, several new people joined the Shoptick team. Among them was Anthony Flint, a technical support specialist of uncommon patience with an event production background. Tony took responsibility for establishing Shoptick's internal infrastructure and customer support operation. Graham Kelley also joined Shoptick and after a final development push, Shoptick was launched in October of 2000 at LDI in Las Vegas where Shoptick's booth recieved honorable mention and plenty of buzz thanks to then Marketing Director, Frances Thompson.
