Shiba Inus are the smallest of the Japanese native dog breeds. It is good-natured and confident. The eyes are deep set, and upward slanting toward the outside base of the ear. The eye rims are black. The triangular ears are pricked and small. They are set well apart. The skull is of a moderate size and in proportion to the body. The broad forehead is rather flat. Stop is moderate. The Shiba Inu has a firm, and round muzzle with a strong lower jaw. The dog's lips are tight and black.
