Dean Knuth, former director of handicapping at the U.S. Golf Association, responds: "A hole-in-two on a par 5 for a double eagle is harder because a player has to hit an accurate long drive on a first shot and a perfect second shot. In the case of the hole-in-one, there is 'only' the perfect shot to hit. Odds on a double eagle have not been worked out, but the U.S. Open would be a good comparison. There has been only one double eagle in the U.S. Open--by T.C. Chen at Oakland Hills in 1985--while holes-in-one at the U.S. Open happen almost every year.
