Description
The question that is most often asked of a martial artist is, “Which art is the best?” The answer is the art or technique that is appropriate for the specific situation. One cannot expect to use a jumping, spinning kick to someone’s head in the middle of a crowded bar. You must be open to all techniques, and then take the ones that will work on the street and adapt them to the situation you are in. The concept that must be stressed is whether or not the technique will work on the street. The street is not a tournament or a boxing ring. Trophies are nice, but they will not save your life. The difference between our school and many other schools is that we train for real life combat situations, not for sport.
The Shido School of Self Defense consists of a marriage of two martial arts, Shido Karate and Shindo Jiu-Jitsu. Shido, meaning "The Warrior's Way", is comprised of Goshin-Do-Kempo Karate, Uechi Ryu, Tae Kwon Do, Wing Chun Kung Fu, Boxing and Filipino stick and knife fighting. It deals with punching and kicking techniques, blocking and parrying, breaking, kumite (sparring), and the use of various weapons. Shindo, meaning "The Way of the Heart", is made up of Samurai Jiu-Jitsu, Hakko Ryu Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, and other grappling arts. It covers locks, throws, holds, pressure points, grappling, and ground fighting.
It is the blending of these fighting arts, which makes the system such an effective means of self-defense. The techniques taught here are REAL techniques proven for the street, that anyone can learn.
