Description

The Social and Economic Policy Institute (SEPI) is a research organization founded in January 2000 by a group of academics, researchers, and unionists. They felt that there was a pressing need to promote social and economic development by broadening the public debate through disseminating a critical volume of progressive analyses on the social impacts of social and economic policies. For this reason, the core mission of SEPI is set out to develop as a think-tank for the public policies in Hong Kong. It is registered as a non-profit-making limited company, operates and raises funds independently.

Unlike most other academic institutions such as the universities, most of the research projects undertaken by SEPI aim consciously to serve the long-term interests of Hong Kong society. Its methods for ensuring the standard of its research methodologies and relevancy of policy recommendations include the use of a research task force which comprises university scholars and competent researchers, coupled with active consultations with outside experts, NGOs and other target groups in different phases of research. In serving its constituency SEPI has also developed partnerships with many community organizations.
