Sewing Classes and Sewing Tips - Home

Description

Shannon Gifford has done it all! Sewing, quilting, costuming, knitting, crocheting, tatting, needlepoint, cross-stitch; if it involves needle and thread, she's given it a try. This fascination with needle and thread began at a very early age, when she begged all who would listen for scraps of fabric with which to make fanciful doll clothing. At age 16, she won a local sewing competition. As a college student, she worked as a costumer, making as many as 50 costumes per production. This experience taught her to sew quickly and accurately, and opened her eyes to design techniques.

After college, Shannon opened a custom clothing business from her home, specializing in bridalwear and wardrobe sewing. Clients included school choral groups, large wedding parties, world travelers, and a semi-professional wrestler. Shannon even made clothing for clients whom she never met, mailing samples and garments long- distance. In addition, Shannon worked free-lance, making costumes for local and dinner theatre companies. She worked in the wardrobe department of a motion picture being filmed in her area, as well. In 1996, Shannon closed her custom clothing business, and turned her attention to teaching sewing and design on a personal basis. She has taught classes from basic to couture, from children to adults. She has also served as a creative consultant and "answer lady," addressing sewing-related questions and developing on-line instructional materials. Shannon is also a member of the American Sewing Guild.
