Who are we?
We are a group of students based at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) who are devoted to ensuring a balanced lifestyle between study, professional career and social life. The majority of our members come from the various disciplines within Engineering, but due to our popular social events we also have members hailing from IT, Science, Architecture, Humanities and Business.
What does the Society do for its members?
The Society organises a series of academic and social (non-academic) events during the year. The majority of our events organised throughout the calendar year are social events because no one can do their best at uni without the support of their friends! These include Harbour Cruises, Engineering Ball, Beer and Prawn Nights, cult movie nights, party's in the Glasshouse Bar and miscellaneous competitions. Academically, this provides a portal for engineering students to meet new people from their own year as well as students from latter years. This gives students the opportunity to arrange study groups with peers and valuable contacts with students in later years for help and advice. A significant part of an Engineering student's university life at UTS is spent working in the industry - in their field of practice. For an Engineering student, it is important to find valuable work experience, especially in this technologically driven and competitive world. To emphasise this importance, the Society organised, for the first time, an Industry Speakers Night for its engineering members in 2002. This is an evening seminar with company personnel from various engineering companies who talk about what engineers do at their company and the sort of jobs engineers undertake. Due to positive feedback, the Society plans to continue its endeavours to help find its members valuable work experience in 2005.
