Since Allan Stypeck purchased Second Story Books in 1973 it has grown from a 5,000-book store on a second floor in Washington, DC to one of the largest used and rare book stores in the world. Three locations in the Washington metropolitan area, all conveniently on the Metro Red Line, house over a million books in all categories as well as manuscripts, maps, ephemera, prints, paintings and vintage posters.

Second Story Books has been a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers since 1977. Services include:

Qualified appraisals for tax, insurance and fair market value. This includes appraisals for probate and donations. Allan Stypeck is a Senior Member of the American Society of Appraisers.
