Title

Seaford Town Council

Description

First formed on 18 May 1999 following a series of ballots among the electorate to determine whether they wished to have a Town Council. After the last ballot the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, as was, determined that elections should take place on Thursday 6th May 1999. Seaford has an estimated population of 22,000, 18,500 of whom are of voting age. Currently there are about 10,500 individual households throughout the town and Seaford is the largest town in the area of Lewes District Council. From May 2003, Seaford (which includes Bishopstone) has five wards (previously 4), Central, East, West, North & South. There are four Town Councillors representing the residents within each of those wards, giving a total of twenty Councillors, including a Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

Members of the public, who are either residents of Seaford or employed within the town, may ask questions of the relevant Councillors and Committee. Public questions should, ideally, be in writing and given to the Town Clerk in advance of a meeting so that sufficient background information can be obtained and a detailed reply prepared. If not, then a verbal question may be asked at the meeting and if the Chairman of that Committee is able to answer the question at that point, then he/she will do so. If not, then a written response will be provided by the Town Clerk.. Questions must relate to matters relevant to the powers and duties of the Town Council or the particular Committee. For a copy of the Committee timetable, please refer to Seaford Town Council on 01323 894870.
